ce.gg Trademark Policy
Effective date: [PENDING LAUNCH — to be finalized after lawyer review at S11+] Last updated: 2026-05-17 (draft) Version: v0.1 (draft; legal review pending)
⚠ This is a DRAFT document. Ships with S05 design lock as architectural commitment. Final wording requires trademark counsel review before public launch (S11+).
1. About this policy
We respect intellectual property rights and expect our users to do the same. This policy describes:
- How we proactively prevent trademark abuse at link creation
- How trademark holders can report infringement and request takedowns
- Our response procedures and timelines
- Counter-notification procedures for users whose links are removed
This policy works alongside our Acceptable Use Policy. Trademark-specific questions are routed through this document; general abuse questions through the AUP.
2. Proactive trademark protection at link creation
Per our Acceptable Use Policy §3, we operate a three-tier proactive defense:
Tier A — Hard block (famous marks)
A curated list of approximately 100 famous trademarks where any standalone use as a custom slug is overwhelmingly adversarial. Examples include Google, Apple, Facebook, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, Tesla, Nike, Coca-Cola, OpenAI, Anthropic, ChatGPT, Claude. These cannot be used as standalone custom slugs by any user.
If you are the trademark owner (or authorized representative) and need to claim such a slug, contact trademark@ce.gg with documentation.
Tier B — Soft warn + attestation
A larger list of approximately 400-500 recognizable brands (Notion, Figma, Slack, Stripe, Spotify, etc.) where legitimate use cases exist (fan projects, employee personal links, named-after-brand individuals). These trigger an attestation requirement at link creation:
"I confirm I am the rightful owner of this brand name or have explicit authorization to use it. I understand that misuse may result in account termination and that ce.gg may share my information with the trademark owner upon valid legal request."
The attestation is recorded permanently with your account info, IP, user agent, and timestamp. Misrepresentation is grounds for account termination.
Tier A/B + scam-modifier compounds
Brand names combined with phishing-trigger words (support, helpdesk, verify, account, login, recover, refund, airdrop, claim, etc.) are blocked at creation regardless of which brand. There is no legitimate use case for these compounds.
Lookalike normalization
We normalize Unicode confusables (e.g., Cyrillic а → Latin a) and basic leetspeak substitutions (g00gle → google, app1e → apple) before matching. Attempts to bypass our list via visual substitution are detected.
3. Reporting trademark infringement
If you discover a ce.gg link infringing your trademark:
3.1 Required information
Send to trademark@ce.gg:
- Your identification:
- Full legal name
- Role (brand owner / authorized agent / legal counsel)
- Company name
- Contact email and phone
- Your trademark:
- Trademark name as registered
- Registration number (e.g., USPTO serial number) or proof of common-law rights
- Country/jurisdiction of registration
- Class(es) of goods/services
- Official URL associated with the trademark
- The alleged infringement:
- The full ce.gg URL (e.g.,
https://ce.gg/your-brand-name) - Description of how the use infringes (impersonation, customer confusion, dilution, etc.)
- Screenshots or other evidence
- Date of discovery
- The full ce.gg URL (e.g.,
- Statements (required for legal validity):
- "I have a good-faith belief that the use described above is not authorized by the trademark owner, its agent, or the law."
- "The information in this notice is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, I am the trademark owner or am authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed."
- Requested action:
- Transfer the slug to your control (provide ce.gg account email)
- Block the slug (return 410 Gone to all visitors)
- Other (describe)
3.2 Our response
- Acknowledgment: Within 24 hours
- First substantive response: Within 48 hours
- Resolution of straightforward cases: Within 7 days
- Complex cases: Updated communication every 7 days until resolved
3.3 What we do
After validating your claim:
- We block the offending link (returns HTTP 410 Gone)
- We notify the link creator that their link has been blocked, with a generic reason ("trademark complaint received")
- We optionally transfer the slug to your control (if you provided a ce.gg account email and we verify your account)
- We add the pattern to our protected_slugs database for proactive blocking of future variants
- We update our admin governance audit log
3.4 What we don't do
- We do not adjudicate trademark validity — we rely on your registration claims
- We do not block content that we determine is fair use, parody, criticism, or news reporting (rare cases; we may seek counsel)
- We do not act on incomplete or unverifiable claims — we will request missing information
4. Counter-notification for users
If your link was blocked due to a trademark complaint and you believe the block was in error or constitutes fair use:
4.1 Required information
Send to counter-notice@ce.gg:
- Your account info (email)
- The slug that was blocked
- The trademark complaint reference (provided in the block notice)
- Your reasoning:
- "I have the legal right to use this name because... [trademark registration / authorization / fair use / parody / etc.]"
- Supporting documentation
- Statements:
- "I consent to jurisdiction in [country] for any related legal action."
- "Under penalty of perjury, I have a good-faith belief that my use is authorized."
4.2 Process
- Within 7 days, we will forward your counter-notice to the trademark complainant
- If they file legal action within 14 days, we maintain the block
- If they do not, we may restore the link (decision made case-by-case)
- We notify both parties of the outcome
5. Repeat infringers
Per our Acceptable Use Policy §5:
- 3+ validated trademark complaints against an account = automatic restriction
- 5+ = account termination
- We retain the right to terminate immediately for egregious cases (e.g., active phishing operation)
6. Cooperation with legal process
We respond to:
- Valid subpoenas and court orders
- DMCA notices (forwarded to our copyright agent at copyright@ce.gg)
- Law enforcement requests with proper legal basis
- UDRP and similar domain-dispute proceedings (where ce.gg domain itself is at issue, not user-created slugs)
We require:
- Service through proper legal channels (we do not respond to informal requests)
- Specificity (broad fishing expeditions are objected to)
- Court orders for content-disclosure beyond what is publicly visible
7. Limitations and disclaimers
- This policy does not constitute legal advice
- We are not a substitute for direct legal action against infringers
- We respond in good faith based on information provided; errors may occur and are corrected as soon as discovered
- Use of our reporting process does not create an attorney-client or agency relationship
